Dr. Ndekya Maria Oriyo is a researcher and global health expert with over 20 years’ experience in medical microbiology, research ethics, health systems strengthening, and global health security. She is the Director of M&E, Research, and Learning at Amref Health Africa in Tanzania. She has held senior leadership roles at the Tanzania National Institute for Medical Research, including Director of Research Information and Regulatory Affairs. Dr. Oriyo is an External Examiner for the University of Dar es Salaam and Sokoine University of Agriculture. She holds a PhD in Medical Microbiology from University College London and has extensive experience in academia, research, and health research regulation. She served as Secretary to the National Health Research Ethics Committee and contributed to Tanzania’s National Health Research Ethics Guidelines. She is on the editorial boards of the Tanzania Public Health Bulletin and the East African Health Research Journal, and formerly served as Editorial Director of the Tanzania Journal of Health Research.
