Community Engagement Officer

Alex Oneka is a dedicated Public Health Officer and Bioethics student at Makerere University with over 12 years of experience in public health practice, patient care, and research coordination. Currently serving as the Community Engagement Officer at the Africa Bioethics Network (ABN), he is passionate about improving healthcare standards and ethical research practices.

As the Community Engagement Officer and Team Leader for Clinical Services for a 7-year prospective Cohort study under the Child Health and Development Centre (CHDC) at Makerere University, Alex has led community-based healthcare and research efforts aimed at reducing risks and increasing access to treatment for HIV, Hepatitis B, Syphilis, other STIs, and mental health disorders among conflict-affected populations in Northern Uganda.

Outside of work, he enjoys backyard gardening, exploring nature through art and photography, and spending quality time with his family. He is committed to community engagement, clinical ethics, and ethical healthcare innovations. He also holds trainings in Public Health with a focus on Health promotion, and Clinical Medicine and Community Health.
